Around 50 years back, I worked as a Nurse Assistant at Gresswell, an old TB Sanitarium, at that time treating alcoholics.
A Sri Lankan Psychiatrist was quietly reading a large tome whilst we were on a tea break.
After he returned to his duties, I looked at the Title: Cosmic Consciousness by Richard Maurice Bucke, M.D.

I had to buy a copy.

Bucke died in 1902, less than a year after his book was published.

His book opened another window in my recovering mind, it has been a treasured favourite ever since.

I have not had any of the profound experiences he described.

But I know people who have, including my dear wife, who has had several.

The book was written following a transformative experience he had in 1872.

Beliefs and ideas from about 130 years back were quite different to what we now may understand.

Nevertheless, the essence of his insight remains relevant to a few of us today.

I would love to hear from any participants on this forum who also have read Cosmic Consciousness.

If there is interest, I will do follow-up posts.

Otherwise, again in the words of another very old song, “If you don’t know, I ain't a-gonna tell ya”,
    I’m no Proselytiser.
