Picking up gas on the mudlogger's gas detector isnt sound grounds for announcing a discovery. Its generally not a good idea to announce a discovery untill youve run wireline logs and done a petrophysical analysis on same to determine nett sand and log pay. You also need to determine what sort of hydrocarbons are present (often requires MDT pressure survey and ideally fluid sampling) and also location of fluid contacts if pentrated.
If MEO are running a basic LWD tool string theyll have gamma ray and resistivity data coming uphole realtime while theyre drilling reservoir and will be able to get arough handle on whats there. If theyre running density/neutron tools as well then they may be able to determine reservoir fluid type and pin down fluid contacts
