''The incoming Governor General, Sam Moystan, is getting a 43% pay rise to $709k a year.''
well, no
the position is getting a pay rise ------------ Moystan isn't - because they aren't in the job yet
if you're going to poke with a stick - make sure it's accurate
personally, I think a job where the office has the power to sack the PM and hence government - is a tad underpaid in the $400 k range
That's many doctors pay and half baked consultants ---------- I suggest the GG is a tad higher up the tree than that
The Governor-General of Australia has the power to dismiss the government, specifically the Prime Minister, under certain circumstances. This authority is part of the Governor-General's "reserve powers," which are rarely used and are typically exercised without the advice of ministers.
The most notable instance of this power being exercised was during the 1975 Australian constitutional crisis. On November 11, 1975, Governor-General Sir John Kerr dismissed Prime Minister Gough Whitlam after the Senate blocked the passage of a supply bill, creating a deadlock. This action was based on the principle that a Prime Minister who cannot secure supply should either seek a general election or be dismissed[1][2][3].
The reserve powers of the Governor-General include the power to appoint and dismiss a Prime Minister, dissolve the House of Representatives, and refuse to dissolve Parliament despite a request from the Prime Minister. These powers are generally exercised in accordance with established conventions and only in exceptional circumstances[2][4][5].
