cost of production: lynas vs moly

    Have been digging round the Moly quarterly and reverse engineering some numbers to compare with Lynas. I was suprised they were ramping up production but still making a loss.

    Moly:
    Things are muddied a bit by their suite of product but:
    $205 m revenue on 4.4 k ton of produce gives a basket price of $47/kg for the quarter.
    $166 m COP (excluding a $33m 1-off, I assume that's the ramp-up costs) gives a $37/kg COP which is why their gross profit is so slim.

    Lynas:
    Estimated COP of $7/kg two years ago (link below): double it if you like to account for inflation & markin of error.

    That's the BIG advantage for Lynas: in times of low prices we'll still be enjoying a good margin while they're losing money. And of course our suite of REEs is much better.
