Geez, cortis! You've excelled yourself in pinning tickets on yourself. English major! So am I darling! So am I! And that's why I have an enormous respect for the Oxford Dictionary. Go check it out. Go to the library and check out the BIG ONE, the 20 volume one (though all the shorter and concise ones will give you the same reading and etymology). You interpret things -all things, including political matters- by opinion and by very slack erudition. That gets you the "smartar se" diploma but not the "I base my utterances on fact" degree. And you talk of bias! Good grief!
