    I agree and then again don't.

    The idea that any single person - even the nations treasurer - has that much influence on an economy has well and truly been busted with the events in the US. The US treasurer has more power than ever and it has not helped so far.

    Our pollies are as hopeless and flawed as the rest of us. All we can expect of them is honesty, had work and an attempt to try to understand where we are and where we want to go - and even doing these few things is a superhuman effort.

    Changing whole economies is an endeavour that takes years and having elections and putting ppl in control of the economy for only a few years at a time virtually guarantees a hahazard approach and little if no progress in the medium term.

    We get our freedoms and accountability from a democratic system of government, but by doing so we also guarantee that the ppl in power are not always of the calibre they should be. This is not their fault entirely, it is the system we use and of course, the influences from outside the country do not make it any easier.
