    Does that include accumulative interest the paydown of debt resulting from the sale has saved over the period to date?

    And also this $5bn extra in assets would offset what? Debt perhaps? They still would need to borrow the money and pay interest on it so maybe not.

    Gold thus to our government in this current economic climate is only useful once monetised yes? So at worst Costello made a poor financial decision to sell when he should have held. But this loss of an asset did not effect the countries economic performance or hurt our federal credit rating over the period.

    Are there any articles from the time where labour supporters are saying Gold will be $1300 by 2011????

    This attack on Costello it appears is based on hind sight ... poor form old chap and perhaps not a real biggie like the rapid growth of debt and waste.
