Better to own the commodity in the case of cotton as the issue of water then becomes your friend. ie production problems leads to volume shortfalls, leads to price rises.
Haven't researched NAM. But would suggest if they don't own production capacity ie land then they will not benefit from rising prices? Rising prices delivers secondary benefits to producer in capital appreciation of the asset base. Good luck!
