cougar could double vic's peak elect reserves

I read in today's SMH that at some stage during the past two days Victoria had just 320MW of spare generating capacity ... ie LESS THAN COUGAR'S PLANNED 400MW UCG PLANT IN QLD.

I reckon a govt grant of just $50mill at this stage would be all that was required to secure the balance of funding to develop and bring online a 400MW facility in Victoria within say 3 to 5 yrs.

That little investment would more than double Victoria's peak demand reserves!

Even if the Feds stepped in with half of the $50mill and the state chipped in the balance.

Its two-fifths of the thickness of a bees appendage in the scheme of govt funding ... it has green credentials ... it is innovative ... and God forbid, it may be the start of a longer term practical solution to Victoria's well known energy achilles heel.
