Cougar Energy says it is holding talks with the Queensland Government about possibly settling two court cases over its failed underground coal gasification (UCG) project in the South Burnett.

The UCG trial near Kingaroy was shut down two years ago over environmental concerns.

Cougar is suing the Government and former department officials for damages and in a separate claim is trying to get the ban lifted in the Planning and Environment Court.

In a statement to the Australian Securities Exchange, the company said it is holding confidential talks with the Government and court proceedings have been suspended until the end of January.
