But what is in it for them? As far as the US is concerned, it could well be to their benefit of the Asian supply chain is more direct. After all, the US don't buy much from us. We don't have oil. We are not in a particularly strategic position. They declined to help the UK in the Falklands issue, they declined to help us in the East Timor scuffle - they are fairweather friends, always demanding our help and turning away if we need it.
The UK might help on the old Empire ties basis.
