If a politician placed a tax on unoccupied properties and a tax on short term accommodation such that the supply to the long term rental market increased, then reduced immigration such that demand was reduced, limiting immigration exclusively to those working in the residential construction sector further increasing supply, could a politician claim to have fixed the rental crisis if rent prices reduced?
