    Antibiotic resistance to be investigated

    The Food Safety Authority is going to have another look at the concerns about transferring antibiotic resistant bacteria from animals to humans.

    It plans to reconvene the Antibiotic Resistance Steering Group, which last met five years ago. The group looks at strategies for managing antibiotic resistance in relation to in-feed use in animals.

    Food and Safety spokesperson Debbie Morris says New Zealand is ahead of most other countries in this aspect, but over the past five years there has been signficant progress made in New Zealand. She says it's now time to get feedback from the production animal industries.

    The new steering group will include representatives from consumers, government and industry
