Historically silver was valued at about 1/10 mass/mass relative to gold, however with the advent of the manifold Razoos including the Brass Razoo (sorry for a WOG using such an Oz expression, but I am 5th generation on one side and 3 on t'other so if Oz is counted as "west" then I am a bit westernized, moreover I live in Malaysia so am a bit oriental, and finally occasionally polite) there has been a bit of confusion as to what is a store of value and what has transaction value.
Perhaps to some extent transaction value plays catch up with store of value as gold spills out of use as store of value into transaction use, and then silver gains leverage as it is better suited for fine-grained use.
