"Delay didn't translate
AWARD for best answer to a stock exchange query goes to the board of First Australian Resources, which has just landed an extension from the Minister for Energy and Biofuels in Senegal for its key exploration licence.
That extension was received on the night of November 11 but the company traded for a couple of hours before going into a halt the next morning. During this time the share price rose from 4.4¢ to 6.1¢, a nice 39 per cent gain.
The ASX wanted to know the reason for the delay. ''The communication was in French,'' responded company secretary Colin Harper. ''None of the company's directors are proficient in French so the communication was forwarded to our Senegal office for translation.''
Which makes one wonder, why doesn't a company doing business in a French-speaking country employ a French speaker?"
