The rumour has done the rounds quite a few times. There is lots of talk that BHP has few growth opportunities in copper. IMO, P Hill is not quite there yet for BHP. Again, IMO, the following needs to occur for BHP to make a bid.
1. The current mine life needs to extend to 20 years min.
2. Significant deposits close by need to be found
Why these two?
BHP has a criteria of long life, expandable, low cost mines. P Hill is low cost, but not long life, and not expandable --- yet. If it ticks these two boxes - game on.
