could citi collapse

Okay so I'll be the first one to blurt out what you're all scared to say, but have in your minds:

Could Citigroup, the top US bank by assets, one of the biggest global franchises and invested companies, collapse?

With all this talk of Citi buying Wachovia I'm inclined to think so as both companies aren't profitable and Wachovia has some serious, serious issues with the Golden West sub-prime lending arm as does Citi.

Citi has US$900 billion in a depository cushion but you will easily see that get flushed if you see headlines on Bloomberg, CNBC and FT such as:

"Citigroup tumbles to 13 year low on cash concerns" or "Could Citi be the next one to fall?" or "Citi in the brink?" etc.

I'm not trying to spread paranoia, I'm just a realist but don't get me wrong, Citi is still in the middle of the woods and it is far, far bigger than worrying about AIG/Lehman.
