I agree that if they need a reason to cancel PEP-11 they definitely have it, but also consider that it would be a waste of resources. Scott Morrison, if he really does oppose PEP-11 is acting against the national interest. There is no significant environmental risk or impact on coastal tourism that I am aware of. Gas is needed on the NSW coast, seismic testing is nearly complete and ultimately a temporary effect. The continuous operation of a gas rig poses no threat to the ocean ecology as I am aware. A gas leak would be more threatening to the operating staff than the local flora and fauna. The rig will not be visible from shore with the naked eye, the 5km statistic is the closest point that PEP-11 area approaches the shore, but not the location of the drill site.

Scott really needs to consider the interests of all Australians, not just the vocal minority on the north shore. I still stand by my belief that this was a response to the recent rape allegations in the liberal government in an attempt to appease north shore voters, and not Scott's actual belief. Again it's anyone's game at this point.

I hate this constant upramping and downramping. Don't pretend there is not a real threat to PEP-11, and don't pretend that it is dead in the water.
