The national competition watchdog is estimating a 45 per cent jump in the "netback" price – a domestic comparison price of the spot LNG price in Asia – in October to its highest since February.
Josh Stabler, managing director at adviser Energy Edge, said the domestic east coast market had followed the international market lower to bottom in early July, but that overseas prices had since rebounded.
Gas pipeline constraints last week also pushed the Brisbane gas price higher, to $10 a gigajoule, up from levels consistently below $4/GJ in early July.
