    It happens every now and again, I think the primary reason is to make the shares more accessible to the average investor. The best example I know is AAPL, they used to to trade at about $700 a share (USD) and not many people can afford to buy into it at that price so a few years ago they did a 1 for 7 split and you got 7 shares now priced at $100 each. This now allows more “average” investors to buy in.
    I don’t think there are any other ramifications ie it doesn’t change the value of the overall company etc.
