There was an article published regarding the redlight camera installed in Vista, it states that 2232 images were sent from Redlfex (out of over 4000 images taken) but only 1,271 were sent as fines. Obviously RDF think tickets should have been issued to more drivers than the authorities did.
This got me to thinking, are they not going to generate the revenue original forecast. The original contract for Vista was announced along with a contract for Suiox falls. The announcement was for a total of 30 camera's with forecast revenue of $2.6 million per annum.
Now lets have a look at the first month revenue for 4 cameras in Vista. Assuming all citations are paid (which of course they will not be but this can be ignored here), we have 1,271 fines that generate $89 each for RDF, this amounts to a massive $113,119 for 1 month, or $1.35M per year from four sets of lights.
The original announcment stated $2.6M revenue per year from 30 camera's.
Of course these figures will drop as people start to wake up to the camera's, but it seems to me that RDF may have underestimated their forecast revenue.
Remember the 4000 images taken and only 1,200 fines issued, most of the problems are related to the sun interferring so expect these bugs to be rectified at each intersection over time.
And lastly a quote from a Sherrif,
"I knew people were running red lights all the time, but not by the thousands," Lt. Hernando Torres told the newspaper. "This is only four intersections covering two approaches (at each intersection). The numbers – they are amazing"
