As for Symonds dismissal, the ball will make more than one sound when it hits both bat and pad.... so the umpire in effect missed the decision both visually and by sound!

The issue is not just the decisions but the timing of the decisions. Just like India received their bad decisions at crucial times in the last test. I thought the standing down of an umpire was supposed to solve this issue.

Steve Buckner must be wondering what he did wrong!
