The big Australian dream is buried for most younger people hoping to own their own home as the middle class in Australia starts to crumble. Older folks that own their own property doing it tougher than ever due to impact of ever increasing council rates plus land tax etc.

Keep in mind that it's the State governments that dictates how local governments operate. A big part of why our rates are becoming crazy expensive is due to all the requirements the State place on Shires. The balance is good old inflation, which affects everything - including council rates.
