I've had a couple of rating issues with council and have had to go to court twice over rates. I won both cases. It was land in a rural area and there was a rural rate and a residential rate. Council rates on the highest, which is residential, you have to challenge it and prove you are running a rural enterprise to get the rural rate. I had to show that I was lodging a tax return that showed a rural enterprise and not a hobby farm.
