Yea, I'm in the West, the real Aust lol, in the rural area, about 30mins south of Perth, if there are no idiots on the Freeway lol.
Some years back, they hit us with ridiculous price hikes, I think it was around 4 times higher and went on for around 2 years.
Some farmers down the road, on maybe 200ac's, were getting hit for around 80 g's. Eventually, a few owners all got together, and took the Shire on, and managed to get the system overturned, but there was no refund.
Then probably some years latter, the Gov come along and placed a urban zoning tag on it, although, potential development was going to be a long way off. So naturally, the rates took off again. Fortunately, before that happened, we had moved about 5k's down the same road, to 25ac, to which I was going to subdivide into 5ac lots. It had a House on it, so as our 1st House, I was going to subcontract for a new build on one of the lots, with me doing a 1/3 or half of the hands on, and just keep repeating that, down the lots. So, I had spent around 10,000 for the planning, then news come out, that the area might be going Urban, as it backed onto the proposed Freeway extension. So, on went the Breaks for the 5ac lots. Then eventually, across the road, development began, we were invaded lol, these funny things they call people, started entering the area lol. Eventually, the same developer across the road, purchased our property, which allowed us to jump the Freeway, and build on 65ac, away from the Burbs.
As the crow flies, only around 2 K's off the Freeway and the wife's 2nd Home, the main shops lol. So she leaves the Palace and visits the 2nd Home lol.
A bit different to growing up in the area, living in what we call the Black Shack, no power, running water, you name it, until I was 16, quite poor and 8 of us kids. BUT it made us all and outsiders couldn't get enough of the place, re W/Ends, so we must of had something, that we didn't know we had. Mind you, we had just about every animal you could think of as pets, a bit like the days of Noah LOL. Sippy, Emu, Fox, you name it.
