The big Australian dream is buried for most younger people hoping to own their own home as the middle class in Australia starts to crumble. Older folks that own their own property doing it tougher than ever due to impact of ever increasing council rates plus land tax etc.
Essentially if you now own your own home / trying to pay it off you are hit with a double whammy in having to pay rates to council for life. Think of it as owing the council ever increasing rent even though you falsely think you own your house & land - not so as after decades paying rates you've essentially given the council your block of land well most of it anyway. Council's should be audited & held accountable for ripping off Australian's.
Local councillor & so called lord mayor here in Melbourne drives around in a $70K vehicle (funded by the tax & rate payer of course) living it up saying life is good - the perks & benefits those higher up in council's earn is eye watering. Just look at expensive council offices & what they are about located in prime real estate land. Council's are milking every Australian.
Australia's renowned standard of living is crumbling as we speak - can't even have a dog or pet anymore in Australia it's become too expensive & council renewal registration notices keep increasing double digit % every year - perhaps for the money paid council could provide per food at least in return.
