It could create minor / inconvenient delays to things - difficulty getting expats in and out of Oman, delays airfreighting small things in due to less flights etc. - the U.S. Navy has past form for accidentally shooting down airliners in that area, as does Iran - so if things get tense then the airlines will be being very careful and some flight disruptions are inevitable. Unfortunately they have the potential to affect an upcoming trip that I have as well.
