listened in to a lengthy report on BBC last night regarding Mauritainian coup.
Unless the (ex) President or outside parties try to interfere, the coup seems to be being trumpeted as a great leap forward.
50 political prisoners released fom jail and the Pres himself acknowledges that is was his " best friends" that plotted his demise. He doesn't seem to have many supporters prepared to put him back in charge.
As long as the new boss (National Security advisor to President for 20 years) and his army chiefs don't run amok with power, revenge and greed then it would seem that many are hailing recent events as hugely positive towards the true democratisation of Mauritainia.
It looks like getting rid of the President was something that was always going to be on the agenda.
Time will tell.
