A company should really only buy back its shares if it feels the shares are undervalued - there isn't any real reason to buy back shares otherwise. A better option to attract a different type of investor would be a consolidation - 10 old shares become 1 new share or something similar.
I'd rather they take any money they get and invest it in operations instead of a buyback.
