Speaking hypothetically, investment markets need to be able to rely on the accuracy of the information that companies feed them. Investors need to know that company management is working in their best interests. And the bodies entrusted with roles supervising those markets need to be allowed to do their jobs without being obstructed and distracted by smoke and mirrors generated by those who might undermine those principles.
