Australia court upholds ruling barring Fortescue from Rio rail line

SYDNEY May 4 (Reuters) - An Australian federal court upheld an earlier ruling barring Fortescue Metals Group access to a key rail haul line operated by rival Rio Tinto , Fortescue said on Wednesday.
"We lost on the ruling this morning," a Fortescue spokesman said, adding the company expected to make a statement shortly.
Fortescue had filed a court application at the Australian Federal Court after a tribunal in June determined the Hamersley line in the ore-rich Pilbara iron belt should not be declared available to third parties, such as Fortescue.
RBC Hamersley is Rio's most important railway, linking 10 of its 12 iron ore mines to the coast.
