Duicorp, I am fully aware of your propensity for black humour and tongue in cheek commentary :-) , but I think you've gone a bit hard on this one.
Seriously, we shouldn't underestimate the torture that addicts endure with drugs. Sure, they've exercised poor judgment in the first instance, but ask any one of them who has endured that sad and desperate existence if he/she wishes they'd never touched the stuff, and the answer will be "yes".
The media has a lot to answer for concerning the inability of some of these individuals to break the habit. I just wish they'd leave him alone. Sadly, many people thrive on this rubbish.
I feel so sorry for his parents. I wish he felt the same way for his loved ones, but drug addictions deprive the addicted of that sort of empathy for others.
Very sad, and I just wish this guy could gain the strength, perspective and lucidity needed to make a genuine and determined effort to shun that horrible lifestyle. I've seen it happen to a very talented friend of mine and it's just plain bloody horrible.
