If a customer can't pay (at all) their debt is written off - AfterPay does not pursue individuals through the court, nor does the default show up on the customers credit record. The customer essentially gets the goods for free (or however many instalments they paid prior to defaulting), with the only "cost" to the customer being disqualification from using the AfterPay service while ever unpaid amounts remain outstanding on the account. What hardship is being borne by the customer in this scenario? Given that the customer has proven unwilling to pay for the goods after a number of requests, do you really think that they would be willing to return the goods?

Please read my recent post above for an explanation of how the AfterPay business model DOES NOT rely on late fees (they are essentially a partial recovery of the cost relating to customers that don't pay on time/at all).
