Goodness, no one said technology won't advance. No one is sceptical about that. But there's a good reason to keep your healthy sense of scepticism about particular advances and especially their timeframes when it comes to putting your money on the line. Remember that while some people do come up with some really amazing stuff, for everyone one of them there are many who fail, and when the experts are saying it's unrealistic, you can be pretty sure they're right, at least in the near future, and generally entirely.
No one said the internet was impossible, there were never experts saying anything of the sort, at least not shortly before it became a reality. The experts weren't sitting around shortly before cochlear implants were successfully in production saying it wasn't going to happen. No one predicted fast trains? What the? When I was a little kid I was given a book which predicted future technology, so that little boys like me could dream about what the world would be like when they grew up. It said by the year 2000 (around 35 years from the book's time of printing) we would have giant trains which traveled through tunnels far below the Earth's surface at close to the speed of sound. As a little boy I found it difficult to imagine, but was silly enough to think that if it was in a book it was probably true. I'm now a little more wise than to believe that books are infallible, but I puzzle over people getting sucked in to putting as much faith now as I did then in what they read on the internet.
No one said iPods, laptops, iPads, mobile phones, digital cameras, etc. etc. were not going to be a reality, in fact, we predicted those things decades in advance. The experts knew they were all coming long long before they actually did, and the public wasn't sceptical, they expected it. Skype is hardly a surprise to anyone, except that it took *longer* than expected. Look at old sci fi movies from the 60s, we were supposed to have video phones everywhere, but we still usually just use voice. Hey, according to Back To The Future, it's only two more years until our youth will be playing on Mattel hoverboards. You actually pose a very strong reason to be wary of putting your money into something like AEB! When the experts are sceptical and the claim is massive and your own money is at risk, and someone named 'Algen' who suddenly popped up on HC and immediately started plugging AEB tells you that it's going to be a long-term thing (and thus if he is right you'll probably watch your holding diminish in value over time before it then recovers), I can't see a reason to put my money anywhere near it. Not even Algen is saying this is going to appreciate in value shortly. If something is not looking like increasing in value for a long time, why hold it in the mean time unless you enjoy reducing your net worth?
If the experts are sceptical I do not necessarily say something is impossible, but I say it's a very sure bet that it's not coming soon. The experts generally understand what is and isn't likely. If we take our money and bet against the experts, we're... well, hey, if you don't want to listen to them that's fine, invest in AEB and see where it takes you :)
