Newman wants to change the law to keep criminal histories of MPs away from the public eye.

Anyone seeking election should be squeaky clean imo, or at the very least voters should be informed of any serious convictions, especially theft, fraud or thuggery.

How about we demand some sort of probity test before people take office, given the shadiness that has come to the fore, over the last 40 odd years.

"Queensland Premier Campbell Newman has again hinted he would consider changes to the law that prevents old criminal charges from being published.

Speaking in State Parliament yesterday, independent Nicklin MP Peter Wellington said Meals on Wheels volunteers are required to undergo an Australian Federal Police check.

Mr Wellington asked Mr Newman if police check on the suitability of MPs to be ministers, in a veiled reference to last month's revelation that Gympie MP David Gibson pleaded guilty to stealing charges in 1999."
