Sucharit Bhakdi ( Thai สุจริต ภักดี [ sut̚˨˩.t͡ɕa˨˩.rit̚˨˩ pʰak̚˦˥.diː˧ ]; born November 1, 1946 in Washington, DC ) is a German specialist in microbiology and infection epidemiology . ^[1] He was until his retirement ^[2] professor at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and from 1991 to 2012 head of the Institute for Medical Microbiology and Hygiene there . ^[3]
He was criticized several times for his theses on the COVID-19 pandemic , which were mainly expressed in videos and interviews . His positions have been sharply rejected by experts and institutions, including representatives of the Universities of Mainz and Kiel , and described as misleading to false.
