I don’t know about Menta. I know the guy with the garden you’re talking about got cranky in the end. If you let them do it to you, it can. Was it worth a ban? Not sure of the specifics in either case so can’t comment. I did like both of their posts.
Re Israeli trolls, trolls and shills make up a large portion of the forum. That one in particular brings them out. Half the time it’s clickbait for reaction purposes. Devoid of fact or decency. In which case the report function works to an extent but I’ve noticed if it was acted on for everyone then the thread would be empty, which has happened. It’s a tough call being a mod and I suppose an element of personal perspective would have to come into it. I find ignoring the thread eventually works, after I’ve taken a mental note of the perpetrators. I don’t think you’ll find a perfect forum for everyone. Just my 2c for what it’s worth.
