I didn't say "knocking on death's door", but it does hit substantially harder and faster than the flu. I know four people that had it. The kid recovered quick and didn't get especially sick. The adults, however, all had it a bit tough, especially for 3 or 4 days at the beginning. The recovery period is also considerably longer than an ordinary flu. It is nasty, but it doesn't justify jabbing the population with experimental gene therapies.
