    As you've confirmed, it's a catch all category for deaths where no other specific diagnosed cause is attributable.

    This category looks to peak at around 6% or 7% of all deaths a month or so after the week is first published and then declines to around 1% to 2% of all deaths as the data is finalised (which can take 6 to 12 months or longer - Understanding Death Data (cdc.gov))

    The chart I linked demonstrated that this pattern is repeated and that spike bears no relation to vaccination levels. The spike is likely an anomaly of the data collection/analysis process as the CDC's mortality data moves from provisional to final.
