Far North Queensland only has one paediatric cardiologist despite huge case loads across the vast region.
Parents want the Cairns Hospital to appoint a second specialist, saying their children are having important check-ups delayed due to their cardiologist's workload.
Hospital preparing business case
The Queensland Children's Hospital supports the work of Dr Reeves at the Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service (CHHHS), which provided almost 700 occasions of paediatric cardiology service in 2024.
The average wait time for new patients was about 324 days, it said.
