For how long have you consumed 2L per day of vodka? Vodka typically has way less esters, methanol, acetone, formaldehyde, etc than other alcoholic beverages per unit of "alcohol".

In my opinion I suspect the ethanol itself isn't really that bad for you and the human body can take a lot of it over a period of time before it is an issue, way more than people currently think. However the other stuff commonly found in alcoholic beverages like beer, wine, whiskey, rum, etc are way more harmful and have a low tolerance in the human body before death. So a beer/wine/whiskey drinker is going to succumb to disease quicker than a vodka drinker if the ethanol equiv. is the same.

Anecdotally the Russians who are extremely heavy vodka abusers tend to last much longer than one would expect given the units consumed. I haven't seen any full blown studies on the non ethanol component of alcoholic beverages contributing to disease. I wonder why.
