The problem is the term pneumonia is really a descriptive term that just means inflammation from an infective cause. Which means pretty much anything can technically be called pneumonia. Even Covid technically causes a type of pneumonia. Now when it's used between medical practitioners, we tend to reserve the word for where there are clear chest X ray changes called consolidation, when the likelihood is a bacterial cause. And if there's a specific virus, we tend to just say its influenza, covid, whooping cough, rather than pneumonia. Even though from a pathology and descriptive point they are all technically pneumonias. So yes the nomenclature is rather confusing!
