I've seen situations like this in private enterprise where they side line experienced, qualified and intelligent people because they think for themselves and not necessarily go by what the new boss (generally younger and with no experience) wants.

They don't conform with dogma or group think because in reality we have been here before and there is no need to reinvent the wheel, but by speaking out they become 'recalcitrant to change' and are ousted. They cannot be manipulated into thinking different if what we are doing is already of a high standard.

By replacing these people you in effect create robots who just do what they are told to do without question and isn't that what the elite want, a workforce that just does what it is told. Eventually they won't need to threaten anyone because everyone the subsequent generations will all think the same and individual endeavor and creativity will be bred out of society.
