- It will identify women with higher risk of hereditary breast and ovarian cancer
- BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes are also linked to breast and prostate cancer in men
- Genes famously carried by actress Angelina Jolie, who had double mastectomy
- DNA variants in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes can also be passed onto children
We hope to identify those at risk while they are young and healthy, not after the fact,' he said.
'This will also save considerable health system costs in Australia through prevention.'
