if you go way back to where this began - I wrote a lot on it on HC on what happens in pandemics ------- of course - got the usual response


Oz has no idea of what happens in an epidemic or pandemic ----

if Oz got hit by one of the tiny wavelets that some other nations have had - Oz would in on the floor curled up in the fetal position

even though I don't approve of Morrisons methods or all of the methods of the states -------------- one has to say that the scorecard must be heavily weighted to the win column

hopefully Oz never sees any real holes punched in it's defenses -------- if something gets through - you find that it will rip the systems apart.


As far as the 'deep cleaning' goes --------- it would seem very clear that fomite transmission isn't so much the fearful thing as aerosol and close contact

there's clearly risks - but, with fomite transmission - you need a chain of things to happen ------- like a swiss cheese - you need all the holes in the cheese to line up if something is going to pass through


so - if you pick up a packet off the shelf in the supermarket - and IF that packet has virus on it ---------- that's not the end game at all

the packet has to go with you - to the checkout - home - into your cupboard - and on the way - your hands have to be contaminated - AND have touched your face - or the virus somehow spread to your face

yes - it can easily happen ------------ but, also - yes - one break in the link for the virus means - it's in a non viable position

every link leading off to potential other areas - like the checkout area being contaminated then contaminating someone else's stuff - all that is easily broken if the checkout person wipes the tops with cleaner

ditto - offices and the like

what we find in practice is that if contact tracing narrows down a target location - that will be cleaned --------- cleaned or closed

it's all really a common sense thing and a practical thing -------- at first - very few of us have ever thought about it - and, the one's who have thought about it for years -------- are called anxious worry warts or gemophobes or similar
