You can't blame your boy, the propaganda is very strong . Side effects are relatively rare , so hopefully there is no reason to worry , but I hear ya. My son is 12 and is aware of the odds , he will have time to adjust to the inevitable ostracism but we're going to ride it out hopefully until the country comes to it's senses.
