Medical negligence is a rife in all western health systems, to think otherwise is to obfuscate the truth. My sister almost had to have her foot cut off when she was young due to the incompetence of the public health system, broke her leg and then when they placed the plaster it was so tight as to cause gangrene at the back of her Achilles. She complained for weeks before they finally removed the plaster and found the gangrene. Of course the hospital botched the subsequent skin grafts and she is grossly disfigured on her right Achilles not to mention the scaring from the skin grafts. As usual the medico legal system screwed our family over and never accepted liability. Probably in the order of 4500 cases a year Australia wide.

More in the private sector than public as well.
