Buzz is still alive isn't he? Either way NASA doctored *A LOT* of footage that was released as "the real deal". Why would they do that? Anyone's guess. Whether or not they went there I don't think it really matters right now, and we won't know unless someone blows the whistle.
Governments around the world have been on mass propaganda and lying campaigns since it was really possible to do such, radio -> tv -> internet.
