While it huffs and puffs about informed choice and medical ethics, the real motivations are predictable. It is all about money. Cold hard cash and lots of it.
The world leaders of the anti-vax movement are not political activists. They don’t take to the streets to protest. They don’t circulate petitions. They don’t lobby parliaments. They don’t engage much at all in the political process. They’re too busy making money.
The cash flow comes from the sale of products that sit outside medical science, generally referred to as supplements. They all rake in money from mistrust of medical science in the community, a mistrust they actively promulgate in order to flog their own wares.
Almost without exception, they cut their teeth in anti-vaccination activism in relation to childhood vaccines and continue to promote the vicious fantasy that childhood vaccines are linked to autism. There’s nothing like stoking up fear and anxiety over infant children to get the cash registers ringing.
