They are careful to clarify it is only correlation so far, but given other studies have shown that alot of the deaths go through an "altitude sickness" type of phase due to low uptake of O2 it sort of makes sense.
The ideal objective here would be to learn how to live with the virus by cleaning up our pollution footprint, a masterclass from the planet itself on how to evolve beyond our automated robotic actions and reactions.
I seem to remember an old George Carlin sketch that contemplated a similar line of thinking, although at the time it was about AIDS.
